Our society asks for solutions for a wide variety of challenges: climate change, energy insecurity, unemployment, environmental pollution, food insecurity, insufficient housing to name a few. The mere definition of challenges and subsequent goals can have a huge impact on the ability of involved parties to achieve solutions. Not only can poor definitions lead to aggravation of circumstances or heavily strained relations, they also tend to spark delays, costs overruns and deprived quality. Therefore, alignment of perceptions is crucial: it enables parties to have common focus. As a society collaboration is essential for meeting our challenges. Collaboration empowers us to attain the necessary combination of skill and knowledge to meet challenges head on.
